A Series of Beautiful Thoughts

Some of the dearest moments ever spent are those on the road I didn't want to travel. And some of the most magnificent doors I've ever passed through are where before there was no way.

Some of the kindest people I shall ever know are the ones I didn't want to meet. And the greatest abundance I've ever received came from a pittance I wanted to withhold.

Tears I have wanted to shed have turned to happiness because for a moment I could see beyond them. And hope has saved everything when I wanted most to give up in despair.

And suddenly I realize how great my progress could be if I could get myself and my emotions out of the way. How hard I push against the door that opens inward - inward, where faith and hope and trust abide.

Photo by DGtal Plus Art & Photo

There's not enough ambling done any more There are too many deadlines. Time for a favorite TV show, time to take pills, time for appointments, time to catch a plane. Life is one continual alarm clock.

Never a gentle gait, but always at a dogtrot to meet those deadlines. It seems that dawdling along or staring into space is a waste of time, as the ambitious, eager for superiority, move dangerously ahead.

Many great people have known the wisdom of safeguarding their health and security by taking time to analyze, not in the role of fact sifting, but by allowing the mind to amble, to drift openly from thought to thought. This sitting idly on the sidelines and fishing quietly in the mind can catch many a solution that casting would never hook.

After a period of creative silence, attacking any deadline is made simple. The mind has had time to lay down the brittle aggressiveness and is ready to operate efficiently. Even physical weariness passes and the goal ahead isn't so far in the distance.

When there isn't time to go fishing, remember the words of American author William Mathews: "Knowledge is acquired by study and observation, but wisdom cometh by opportunity of leisure. The ripest thoughts come from a mind which is not always on the stretch, but fed, at times, by a wise passiveness."

50 Golden Rules to Skyrocket your Career

Richard Moran, working as a business consultant all over the world, had discovered some basic career-related golden rules that everyone should know—but many don’t. Here is the list.

I have added by own to make the complete the list of "50 Golden Rules to Skyrocket your Career".

  1. Business is made up of ambiguous victories and nebulous defeats. Claim them all as victories.

  2. Keep track of what you do; someone is sure to ask.

  3. Be comfortable around senior managers, or learn to fake it.

  4. Never bring your boss a problem without some solution.

  5. You are getting paid to think, not to whine.

  6. Long hours don’t mean anything; results count, not effort.

  7. Write down ideas; they get lost, like good pens.

  8. Always arrive at work 30 minutes before your boss.

  9. Help other people network for jobs. You never know when your turn will come.

  10. Don’t take days off sick—unless you are.

  11. Assume no one can/will keep a secret.

  12. Know when you do your best—morning, night, under pressure, relaxed; schedule and prioritize your work accordingly.

  13. Treat everyone who works in the organization with respect and dignity, whether it be the cleaner or the managing director. Don’t ever be patronizing.

  14. Never appear stressed in front of a client, a customer or your boss. Take a deep breath and ask yourself: In the course of human events, how important is this?

  15. If you get the entrepreneurial urge, visit someone who has his own business. It may cure you.

  16. Acknowledging someone else’s contribution will repay you doubly.

  17. Career planning is an oxymoron. The most exciting opportunities tend to be unplanned.

  18. Always choose to do what you’ll remember ten years from now.

  19. The size of your office is not as important as the size of your pay cheque.

  20. Understand what finished work looks like and deliver your work only when it is finished.

  21. The person who spends all of his or her time is not hard-working; he or she is boring.

  22. Know how to write business letters—including thank-you notes as well as proposals.

  23. Never confuse a memo with reality. Most memos from the top are political fantasy.

  24. Eliminate guilt. Don’t fiddle expenses, taxes or benefits, and don’t cheat colleagues.

  25. Reorganizations mean that someone will lose his or her job. Get on the committee that will make the recommendations.

  26. Job security does not exist.

  27. Always have an answer to the question, “What would I do if I lost my job tomorrow?”

  28. Go to the company Christmas party.

  29. Don’t get drunk at the company Christmas party.

  30. Avoid working at weekends. Work longer during the week if you have to.

  31. The most successful people in business are interesting.

  32. Sometimes you’ll be on a winning streak and everything will click; take maximum advantage.

  33. When the opposite is true, hold steady and wait it out.

  34. Never in your life say, “It’s not my job.”

  35. Be loyal to your career, your interests and yourself.

  36. Understand the skills and abilities that set you apart.

  37. Use them whenever you have an opportunity.

  38. People remember the end of the project. As they say in boxing, “Always finish stronger than you start.”

I will add some more rules from my experience [:-)] to complete the list.

  1. Stay away from colleagues who talk rumours. Get away from Office Politics.

  2. Always have some ideas on your sleeve on how to improve your company. Think what will you do, if you run the company. You will get an opportunity to express them.

  3. Do not take all your colleague's work just to prove you can do a better job(you are ruining him/her by helping them, actually).

  4. If you decide to quit your job, Quit on a high note. Make them miss you. Quit in a nice way. You may end up working for the same company again.

  5. Arrange picnics and social outings with your office colleagues.

  6. Always ask for a salary rise, only after a remarkable achievement of yours. Test your boss's mood before you speak.

  7. If your boss is not around (on a business trip / vacation), work twice as much (your boss would have kept spies to watch).

  8. When your colleague does something wrong for the first time, talk to him in private. If that fails, then you must take that to management.

  9. Praise the people. Often people work for a good word of praise.

  10. Offer respectable title for a job.

  11. Speak directly to your boss in private if you are not satisfied with your job. Not to your sub-ordinates or colleagues.

  12. Do not try to judge people immediately. Have an open mind for ideas from every one. Every one has got a brain, right?

Funny:Aussie Princess Fairy Tale

(Pic courtesy: Most Original)

Once upon a time, in a land far away, a beautiful, independent,

self-assured princess happened upon a frog as she sat, contemplating

ecological issues on the shores of an unpolluted pond in a verdant

meadow near her castle.

A frog hopped into the princess' lap and said: Elegant Lady, I was

once a handsome prince, until an evil witch cast a spell upon me.

One kiss from you, however, and I will turn back into the dapper,

young Prince that I am and then, my sweet, we can marry and set up

housekeeping in your castle with my mother, where you can satisfy my

needs, prepare and serve my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children,

and forever feel grateful and happy doing so.

That night, as the princess dined sumptuously on lightly sautéed frog

legs seasoned in a white wine and onion cream sauce, she chuckled and

thought to herself:

Share with all the princesses you know! It's sure to brighten their day!

By age 29, Coco had raised her drug-addicted niece, had two children of her own, gotten married, held a full-time job and went to school full-time, graduating with a 4.0 GPA in Accounting,

Know yourself and your friends

According to Myers-Briggs, I am INFP - that is

The Myers-Briggs system measures people in four areas...subdivided by two functions

  • How a person relates to others (either by Extraversion or Introversion)
  • How a person takes in information (either by Sensing or iNtuition)
  • How a person makes decisions (either by Thinking or Feeling)
  • How a person orders their life (either by Judging or Perceiving)
Visit Myers-Briggs Introduction page to know which type you belong to.

So, by this classification - I worked out (roughly) - INFP and what does that signify?

And then visit the

Sixteen Types of Myers-Brigg page to know more about yourself.

I am a Dreamer - an Idealist. Well, I do not agree to that completely.
